Trinity College Chapel Floor

Trinity College Chapel FloorFloor no 2

Having had experience at Ely Cathedral in laying the new stone floors over new under floor heating in The Lady Chapel and Processional Way projects, we were appointed by Trinity College to carry out this very prestigious and demanding project to their Chapel.

The existing Carrera and Belgium Black Marble chequered pattern floor was completely surveyed and recorded before being carefully lifted, stored, cleaned and repaired for relaying.

The substructure was then carefully excavated under the watchful eye of the County Archaeologist to allow for a suitable substructure to support a new underfloor heating system.

The heating was fed by a new boiler and plant room installation with a state of the art control system. Careful consideration was given to the movement joints incorporated in the floor build up.

The marble floor was then relaid in the precise pattern configuration. It was laid onto a lime mortar base, before being honed to give a perfectly flat and polished finish.

Other works included full decoration throughout, repairs and restoration to the oak panelling to the Ante Chapel and new oak flooring and decoration to the Side Chapel and Choir Room.

The project was completed within a tight programme period and within budget. The final finish and quality of the project is a testimony to the skill and experience of all those involved.
